As defined by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching is...
“partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential…the coach's responsibility is to:
Discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve
Encourage client self-discovery
Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies
Hold the client responsible and accountable
This process helps clients dramatically improve their outlook on work and life, while improving their leadership skills and unlocking their potential.”
Coaching is a very non-directive process, meaning that as the coach, I will never tell you what to do. Therefore, coaching is not consulting, counselling, therapy, mentoring, or a form of discipleship. So, if you are looking for someone to give you direction, then coaching may not be for you. A coaching client should be healthy, mentally and emotionally, motivated, creative and resourceful. Furthermore, the coach is not a business manager, financial advisor, headhunter, or accountant.
As a coach, I believe that you know your situation best, and can therefore create the best solutions and route for your continued growth. I am not an ‘expert’ in your field. My job is to help you think and work towards those solutions and personal challenge; to assist you in creating a vision for your future.
